11 AUG RWYC ANNOUNCES ‘THE CHESTNUT APPEAL FOR MEN’S HEALTH’ AS CHARITY FOR 2021/2022

It is with great pleasure that the Royal Western Yacht Club announces their chosen charity for 2021 & 2022 as ‘The Chestnut Appeal for men’s health’. Covering the Southwest of England, the Chestnut Appeal for men’s health raises funds to provide essential equipment for research and diagnosis, along with raising awareness for men’s cancer.

Lesley-Ann Hopkins, Charity Director of ‘The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health’ said, “We are honoured to have been invited to be charity partners and are incredibly grateful to The Royal Western Yacht Club. Raising awareness is vital, so to be able to reach men and their families within the sailing community is really good news. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men within the United Kingdom, affecting nearly 50,000 men a year. Many men go undiagnosed, particularly within the early stages of prostate cancer as they don’t experience signs or symptoms, which is why raising awareness of the possible symptoms is vital. Thanks to the RWYC, this is a great opportunity for us to do just that”. RWYC Commodore, Chris Arscott, said, “COVID-19 ensured that 2020 was an awful year for everyone in many ways, not least the many charities that rely on fund raising by the general public in all sorts of activities, sports and challenges. ‘The Chestnut Appeal’ is a very worthy charity for us to support. Often operating in the shadow of many similar cancer related charities and research funds, ‘The Chestnut Appeal’ is in desperate need of public awareness and help. As a club, we look forward to providing as much help as we are able to.”
