The Royal Western Yacht Club is organising its third running of the UK Fastnet 6.50.

Barratt Homes have again kindly agreed to sponsor the Barratt Homes UK Fastnet 6.50 which is organised by the Royal Western Yacht Club of England in association with Classe Mini.

Out of the twenty five Classe Mini Yachts who entered, twelve yachts and their crew are actually preparing to start.
The race departs Plymouth on Sunday 5th July 2009 for the Eddystone Light, then the Needles (Fairway Buoy), Bishop Rock Light, Fastnet Rock, Cork (Fairway Buoy) before finishing at The Royal Western Yacht Club 720 nautical miles later.

The Barratt Homes UK Fastnet 6.50 is open to two handed Classe Mini 6.50 yachts.
Classe Mini is made up of two classes, prototype and series yachts. The yachts must not exceed 6.50m in length, 3m beam, 2m draft and 12m air draft.

The yachts are exciting to sail, with almost no comforts, but Classe Mini insist on a high standard of safety.
Established in 1977 they are the smallest offshore racing boat racing solo across the Atlantic every two years.

The Royal Western Yacht Club has always been in the forefront of shorthanded sailing since the start of the famous OSTAR in 1960 and are pleased to continue supporting this very exciting class of boat in the UK.
