They both live in Belgium close to the coastline. Veronique and Bartel have sailed on an 18 foot catamaran for years. Five years ago they decided to upgrade from catamaran to yacht sailing. After obtaining a yachtman certificate they bought their boat in 2001. Their homeport is Nieuwpoort (Belgium), VVW club. The first few years they sailed almost exclusively in the English channel. Larger trips were headed for Plymouth, St. Malo, Lowestoft, Hull and Blyth. The around Britain and Ireland race is the first yacht race they participate in.
