The 2006 RBI sets a particular challenge for Nigel Passmore and Angus Mc Phie, for Nigel's newly refurbished and improved trimaran "Waverider" has taken line honours in the last two RBI races. Can they make it a hat-trick?
Nigel started sailing as a cadet at the Plym Yacht Club and has competed mainly in dinghies and sportsboats. The step up to offshore multihulls forfills a long held ambition to race a trimaran. "I have watched many of the starts for the Ostar, Twostar, Transat and RBI and have always had an interest in the RBI as a great way to circumnavigate the island one lives on".
Angus brings a great deal of experience to the partnership, again starting in dinghies he progressed to becoming an ocean yacht master and competed in all the legs of the 1996/97 BT Global Challenge. "Nigel and I have enjoyed great success racing my J24 and J80 sportsboats, winning races at national championships and as part of the British team at the Europeans, when Nigel invited me to join him on Waverider for the RBI it was an opportunity for me to bring a lot of the skills I have learnt over the years to this interesting race".
