Shetland Round Britain
& Ireland Race 2006

ROARING FORTY

ROARING FORTY, is an open 40 designed in 1996 by Adrian Konynendyk from the Lutra design group. She was designed for shorthanded longdistances races as the round britainrace, ostar, route du rhum. The boat is a more alround design then boats from the French school. She is of carbon/foam/epoxy construction. Although the boat goes into her ninth racing season she is for sure still more than a match for the new "class 40".
We made a thorough refit this winter and she should be flying and shining again this season.

Michel Kleinjans - Skipper
A seasoned shorthanded sailor from Belgium, competes for the 4th time in this more than enjoyable race, which will be a good practiceground for his participation in the route du rhum later this year. He just loves to race on the open seas as his participations and podiumfinishes in the azab, ostar, figaro, whitbread, mini transat and some smaller records testify.

Mick Liddy - Co-Skipper
Mick is a SAR helipilot in the Irish airforce. He has a background as navigator and skipper for the irish commodore's cup team, several round ireland races and the fastnetrace. He was also the navigator on the 80ft maxi that broke the round ireland record in 2003. Last year he did a repeat of this but now singlehanded. That is how he met Michel Kleinjans who came to Ireland and bettered Mick's record a few weeks later. The two got to meet each other and decided a team of recordbreakers would be a nice line up for the round britain race.
