RED ARROW
Red Arrow
The Royal Air Force Sailing Association took delivery of the latest Red Arrow at the London Boatshow in January 2005 as the culmination of an eighteen month programme to replace their existing yacht. At the same time as Red Arrow was being delivered Marcus was hatching a plan to ‘do something slightly different’ with RAFSA in order to show other RAFSA sailors that they would be supported undertaking unusual projects. The RAFSA entry to the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race 2006 is the result of those two events.
Red Arrow is a standard J109 which spends much of its time on the Solent or doing
South Coast offshore races. Last year she successfully completed the Fastnet Race fully crewed and this year she will go from Plymouth to compete at Cork Week before finally returning to the Hamble in time for Cowes. Red Arrow offers the opportunity for sailors from all branches of the RAF to become involved in competitive sailing and experience many aspects of life on the water.
