Shetland Round Britain
& Ireland Race 2006

PSIPSINA

'PSIPSINA' is a HOD 35 with only some minor modifications for 2-handed viz. some extra internal ballast and the removal of all large headsails; carrying only no. 3 jibs helps the IRC rating, as well as handling. This winter's preparation included new rod rigging as the previous rods were 6 years old, probably getting close to going 'ping', and you never know when(!); and a brand new pram hood for the companionway - being 'dry' seems like a good idea. John Loden - Skipper
I started sailing in dinghies in my teens and also sailed cross-channel and in the Bay of Biscay at that time on various 30/35' sloops. After a long gap raising a family, but not sailing with them, I returned to yachting about ten years ago. I bought 'PSIPSINA', a HOD 35, new in 1999 and began racing in earnest. Initially fully-crewed, we did a full RORC campaign in 2001, coming 2nd in class in the Fastnet of that year. In 2003, I started sailing 2-handed in the 2-handed division of the RORC annual series and have continued to do so for the last three years, including 2 Fastnets.

Oliver Bond - Co-Skipper
I learned in dinghies, sailing my Laser and International 14, then becoming an instructor, and moved into yachts six years ago. I've sailed on a variety of boats from Ker 11.3's to an 88’ high performance sloop, visiting the Canaries, Uruguay, Newport,R.I., the Galapagos and Alaska in the process. There was time to fit in UK regattas and RORC offshores, including a Fastnet. I’m currently preparing my mini-Transat for a season's 2-handed campaigning but am really looking forward to the SRBI as serious preparation.
