Shetland Round Britain
& Ireland Race 2006

OOJAH

OOJAH is a 36' J110 launched in 1999. She is a performance cruising yacht and is ideal for shorthanded sailing. Skippered by owner Peter Tanner she crossed the Atlantic with the ARC in 2002, and cruised between Trinidad and the Virgin islands, sailing back the following year via the Azores. In 2004 she cruised to the Lofoten Isles in North Norway, circumnavigating the UK as she went. Last summer she was in the Baltic, transiting the Gota Canal between Stockholm and Gothenburg on her way home. OOJAH - click to enlarge
Peter Tanner - Skipper
Peter is a retired Airline Pilot from Hamble. He enjoys short handed sailing and has won the Single Handed Round the Island Race. His next challenge will be the single Handed Le Triangle in France. He also enjoys walking, tennis, skiing, in fact anything outdoors. He loves expeditions and has trekked in the Himalayas, Patagonia and New Zealand.

Phil Kirk - Co-Skipper
While Peter's approach to racing can best be described as Corinthian, 32 year old Co-skipper Phil Kirk, a naval architect from Bristol, comes from a racing background. He sails Enterprise dinghies, his greatest achievements being a race win at the 2004 Enterprise World Championships and 6th place at the 2006 Bloody Mary. He started yacht racing on a Farr 31 in the 1997 Sydney to Hobart race and since then has crewed in three Fastnets and a further Hobart. While sailing takes up most of his spare time Phil has run the London Marathon and cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats.

Phil and Peter met by chance at the 2005 JOG week and have since raced together in the Hamble Winter Series and some JOG and Royal Southampton two handed races. While they bring together lots of complementary skills, neither are good in the galley and catering could be problematic. Their objectives are to do well, have fun, and bring themselves and the boat home in one piece.
