Shetland Round Britain
& Ireland Race 2006

JALFREZI

JALFREZI is a 40' J120 racer cruiser from the famous J range. Built in France in 2003 she is a highly specified machine with many carefully considered go fast extras developed by Gareth over her career. These hopefully will make it possible to maintain the high average speed necessary to win this race. She draws 7' with a lead bulb, which ensures high and fast pointing. Off the wind she flys asymetric kites which eclipse the horizon . Gareth and Brian will be using snuffers to keep these under control.
She has already been for her first cruise this year which Gareth and his wife Anita made to Dandy Hole up the river Lyner on a freezing March night. For her qualifying passage Brian and Gareth sailed up to the solent, participated in a Royal Southern Yacht Club Two handed race and back again to her home port of Plymouth. She is maintained by Fast Tack yachts of Plymouth.

He has won the 3 peaks race, the 707 national championship. This is his fourth season in Jalfrezi. In 2003 in Jalfrezi he with co skipper Ras Turner won the Azores and back 2 handed race setting a new record on the way back hitting 25 knots on one terrifying sleigh ride. He won his class in the 2004 channel triangle 2 handed race. He started the last round RBandI but only got as far as Bishops Rock when he entered a rig hull separation zone. Gareth is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Derriford Hospital.
Brian from Perth West Oz has been a resident in the UK since 1998. He has competed in dinghies from an early age. He started sailing lead mines when he arrived in Plymouth. Brian has crewed on many winning boats both in and offshore. He has enjoyed success in Crush a HOD 35 being first in class in Cork 2002 and 3rd in the IRC Nationals2001 2003. He has also done well in the J80 Nationals and Worlds. Brian has also been involved in crew training on the Volvo boats and has extensive experience in cross chanel and has raced across the "pond". Brian is an engineer and Gareth is relying on him to attend to the top of the mast.
Gareth and Brian are determined to be the first production boat home.
