Shetland Round Britain
& Ireland Race 2006

JAGER

Dick and Leslie will sail in JAGER the 35 ft Koopmans 35. Dick designed this boat after the 1993 Round Britain race. The boat is strong enough to withstand ice and driftwood of Spitsbergen .
Therefore the hull is massive 30-40 mm polylester until 1m from mid ship, the rest is sandwich construction. All the interior is laminated to the hull and the plywood 8 mm deck is covered with glass epoxy. The keel has a low centre of gravity and the mast is 16.2 m above deck. This will give enough stability and sail for some speed.

Dick Koopmans - Skipper
Dick's sailing career started at a very early age and between1980 to 1997 he sailed a lot of local races and also the Round Britain in 1993 and the Lagos race. Over the last few years he has annually made six week cruising trip's to Spitsbergen, Iceland and Norway together with his wife Janet and children and is now looking forward to this year’s round Britian race.

Leslie Irvine - Co-Skipper
Leslie was born in Shetland so he is always near the sea. It is therefore no surprise that from an early age his passion in life has always been sailing. Starting with canoes and dinghies he then bought his first yacht at the age of twenty and is currently the proud owner of a Koopmans 205 designed by his race partner Dick. Leslie's main intrest is cruising with his family to Scandinavia and UK mainland.

Shetland Catch, one of Europe's largest pelagic fish processors, will be sponsoring the Dutch/Shetland team of Dick Koopmans and Leslie Irvine on Jager. Shetland Catch enjoys good business relationships with the Dutch as most of the company's fish is exported via Holland which makes the Dutch/Shetland team an important part in the sponsorship.
Shetland Catch is pleased to be sponsoring a local competitor in the race, and wish them luck in the future. It is hoped the bold branding across the hull and spinnaker will raise the awareness of both the company and the Shetland Isles around Britain.
