Long-standing sailing partners William Mumford and Malcolm Dickinson are no strangers to the Round Britain & Ireland Race have competed in the same boat, Flair II, in 2002 finishing third in their class.
Both live and work in Devon - William is the dealership principal at Renault Mumford in Plymouth while Malcolm Dickinson is a partner and head of the company commercial department at Michelmores Solicitors in Exeter.
William Mumford has been sailing almost all his life starting at the age of three in Optimists. This will be his third RBIR although his first attempt was cut short when his boat, Mercury Messenger was knocked out of the race in a gale halfway round Ireland. William has also twice been a competitor on the Three Peaks Yacht Race and is a member of the Yealm Yacht Club and the Royal Western Yacht club.
Malcolm Dickinson has sailed since moving to the South West from London nearly 20 years ago. He is well known in Westcountry sailing circles as being the organiser of the Michelmores Challenge Cup an annual invitation corporate yacht race which is now in its 16th year and regularly attracts in excess of 50 entrants.
In his capacity as a corporate lawyer, Malcolm has been closely involved with ocean racing having acted for Conrad Humphreys Racing Limited and Alex Bennett Racing. Malcolm is also a member of the Royal Western Yacht Club and the Yealm Yacht Club
Flair II's race will be raising funds for CLIC Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity and is being sponsored by Clydesdale Bank. A dedicated website will plot the course and post daily updates and photographs. Supporters can make a pledge by logging on to www.flair2.com.
