Richard Hatton - Skipper
Richard says that reading books by Francis Chichester and a family background of sailing, was his introduction to yacht racing and cruising.
His first boat was a Fingal 28, a Bermudian sloop, bought in 1999 when he was 38 years old. Named "Cool Gal", he found it a good beginner's boat owing to its long keel. He sailed his yacht on numerous trips to France, the Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly and around the U.K., mostly two or single-handed.
In 2003, Richard decided that it was time to tackle the Atlantic, so sailed to Newport, Rhode Island, in 39 days and returned, via the Azores, sailing single-handed.
In 2005, he bought "Chimp", a half-tonner designed by Jean Berret, in which he took part in the Faraday Mill OSTAR Transatlantic Race. He finished in 10th place overall having taken 30 days and 16 hours. Richard is looking forward to the RBI event as he sees it as as much of a challenge as his previous sailing experiences owing to the proximity of the land and shipping route hazards.

Chris Turner - Co-Skipper
Chris began sailing in dinghies, but when he graduated to yachts, his experience widened to sailing in the English Channel, to the Channel Islands, the Scillies, North Cornwall and the Isle of Wight. He also crewed on a cold, rough, February delivery trip from the East Coast to Brixham. The RBI, which will be his first attempt at Ocean Racing, is, Chris says, "a dream come true".
